Alpinists return to terraXcube!
Federica Mingolla, Silvia Loreggian, and Anna Torretta, the three alpinists involved in the K2 climbing attempt organized by the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) as part of the K2-70 project, have returned to visit us for the second part of the study on the female body's reactions to high altitude.
The alpinists were artificially taken to high altitude inside the terraXcube. Re-exposing already acclimatized alpinists to extreme altitudes is a study procedure that has never been used before.
The study, conducted by the Institute for Mountain Emergency Medicine at Eurac Research, will improve our understanding of hypoxia, the onset of acute mountain sickness, and human physiology at extreme altitudes, with a particular focus on female physiology.
